The groundbreaking performing arts company Signdance Collective are to feature in London 2012 Festival Showtime as part of their European Tour for 2012

Signdance Collective is to perform its Olympic inspired outdoor performance piece: 'New Gold' and 'Half A Penny' featuring the London-based Punk/ Jazz Duo, 'Dead Days Beyond Help'.

'New Gold' is a playful, witty and completely irreverent look at competition and winning as four unlikely characters explore their search for gold. The production challenges the notion that Olympic values are true and whether competition is necessary at all.

On the surface it is a hilarious romp to the finishing line; if you look deeper the performance questions what has come to be regarded as valuable. The show has already toured Europe, the Middle East the USA so don’t miss the opportunity to see it as part of the London 2012 Festival - Showtime! Showtime is A festival of free outdoor arts events with a feast of amazing performances in every London borough.

'Half A Penny' is a  new international collaborative performance with a set from the British Rock/Punk band 'Dead Days Beyond Help'. The work is made in association with Signdance Collective's international partners - the ETOS Festival, in Ankara, Turkey. The piece was devised by Signdance with Brazillian writer dramaturge Pedro de Senna.

New Gold was originally commissioned by Creative Junction as part of the Accentuate and the Create, Compete, Collaborate programmes.

Accentuate is a transformational programme of 15 projects, inspired by the Paralympic Movement, which seeks to change perceptions and offer opportunities to showcase the talents of deaf and disabled people.  Accentuate has been funded by Legacy Trust UK, creating a lasting impact from the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games by funding ideas and local talent to inspire creativity across the UK, and the regional cultural agencies. Screen South is the home of Accentuate.

Esther Fox Accentuate Programme Director says “We are delighted to see that Signdance Collective has gone on to have huge success with New Gold on their European tour and are now to be featured as part of the Festival 2012 programme.  This is a great example of how an initial investment can go on to have a big impact.”
