Seeking comfort 1 (charcoal 1989)
The gable end of a one-story building looks out from the left of frame onto a sweeping grassy field, surrounded in the background by rows of trees – their foliage giving the impression of a band of sunlit honeycomb. In the mid-foreground, we see a tall pine-like tree with a denser copse of smaller darker trees towards the right. A full bottomed cow is facing towards the central tree, showing us her rounded rear-flanks. Beside her, in profile facing the left of frame, another cow with rounded udder, lowers her head gently towards the grass.
