Shape are delighted to announce the appointment of Yinka Shonibare, one of the UK’s leading contemporary visual artists, as patron to the Shape Open.
Shonibare has a long association with Shape and has gone on to develop a successful international arts profile, exhibiting his iconic mixed media art works at high profile galleries worldwide.
Yinka Shonibare says:
'The Shape Open Exhibition provides a fantastic platform for disabled artists to show their work. Such exhibitions offer great opportunities for artists to be discovered by institutions and large audiences. Similar exhibitions have helped to contribute to the development of my own personal career'.

The Shape Open is an annual touring exhibition which invites both disabled and non-disabled artists to enter artworks which address and respond to a selected theme. From the abstract to the figurative, the personal to the political, work in the Open investigates a range of ideas surrounding themes of disability.
This year’s theme is ‘Disability Re-assessed.’
Shape’s CEO Tony Heaton says:
‘This is a fantastic opportunity for artists to have their work critiqued by Yinka Shonibare, when he will join the Open Selection panel of judges alongside representatives from Shape and The Nunnery Gallery, Bow.’
